Jewish Arab University Students Meeting

On 2 March 2014, the School for Peace conducted a workshop for Jewish students from the Academic College of Social Sciences and the Arts in Netanya; 25 students participated.

The workshop included a lecture on Neve Shalom – Wahat al-Salam and on The School for Peace, followed by a tour of the village and its institutions. After that there was a lecture by Dr. Maram Masarwa on the Palestinian Citizens of Israel. Many questions arose from these two lectures. Later two groups were set up to discuss Arab-Jewish relations in the state, facilitated by Prof. Ariella Friedman, head of the behavioral science program at the college, and Nava Sonnenschein, director of the School for Peace.

The students talked about the dilemmas and challenges that this topic raises for them. The subjects raised included equality, the Jewish definition of the State, and the implications this has for the Arab Citizens, how the education system deals with this subject, the implications of living together, concerns, notions, strategies, and more.
