Mapping Environmental Hazards
A Meeting of the Environmental Justice course in Northern Israel
On Friday October 14 2016, a group of participants in the training course for environmental justice leaders met in Tamra, Northern Israel.
This meeting is part of a series conducted throughout the course in order to expose the participants to the asymmetrical relations between Jews and Arabs with a special emphasis on environmental injustice.
The course includes dialogue, lectures and field trips that focus on the environment. The group also conducts practical projects. In this framework it is working to construct a map that displays environmental hazards, their nature, danger level and diffusion throughout certain areas of the country.
The purpose is to create a permanent website displaying these environmental hazards that will be accessible to the public, so that Arabs and Jews can work together to modify and remove these hazards.
In this meeting the group prepared an album of photos for placement on the map. The map includes a photo of the area and the type and severity of the hazard. In the future everyone will be able to visit the site, look through the information and use it.
