Environmental Justice change agents course in 5th meeting, focuses on climate change
Friday, September 10: The course’s fifth meeting was attended by 11 Jews and seven Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel
The day’s activities began with a “how are we” discussion. Most of the participants shared their experiences from the last tour, which had a lasting impression on them. The time window for dialogue was short and the need was felt to share in and deepen the discourse.
At 10:15 we welcomed Prof. Danny Rabinowitz for the course’s third lecture. This time the topic was: “Climate inequality, migration and climate refugees in the Middle East.” His presentation was fascinating, arousing both concern and reflection on the future of our region.
Afterwards, we met Ms. Shahira Shelby for a fascinating workshop on entrepreneurship. We began processes of clarification on what interests the group members, and which topics they would like to promote and initiate. Group participants were sent home with the task to consider whether they are interested in initiating a new project or joining someone who is already trying to promote one topic or another. Mapping these motivations within the group will help in the creation of action teams based on areas of interest and inherent potential.
We are all already excited and curious to hear and see what ideas and topics will come up. We feel that the seeds for action are already there.
We wish us all a happy new year, of doing, influencing and creating change through dialogue, collaborative discourse and partnership.
With best wishes,
Harb Amara and Dr. Noa Barkai-Kara(the group facilitators).
