On July 30, 2015, the School for Peace organized an event for the end of its activity year. Some 30 Arab and Jewish facilitators and activists who work with the SFP came, as well as WAS-NS residents. SFP director Dr. Nava Sonnenschein and Harb Amara gave an account of activities that had taken place from September 2014, and directions for activities in the coming year. Afterwards, we observed a play, “In the Place of the Other”, performed by drama students from Tel Aviv University under the direction of stage director Nola Chelton. The play is based on documentary material from the books, The Yellow Time and Present Absentees by David Grossman.

The play was created through a process of group work by Nola Chelton with the actors, who were asked to remove the masks and armor of the individual, in order to bring to the stage “the other person”, i.e. that which was till now foreign to them, in the most authentic way. After the play there was an interesting discussion with the actors. Then, after a meal, the evening closed with three songs composed and played by Yonatan Shapiro.
