Bringing two groups of professional change agents together

May 20, 2016: a joint meeting was convened for two change agents courses of the School for Peace: the course for leaders in environmental justice, and the course for planners, architects and civil engineers.* The meeting, which took place at the campus of the School for Peace in Wahat al-Salam – Neve Shalom, brought together 45 Arab and Jewish professionals. We engaged in discussion of the political situation and, due to the timing, of the national days recently marked by both sides (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Nakba Day). Following a brilliant lecture by Prof. Oren Yiftachel on the administration of lands in Israel, we discussed in the group possible ways for action. We spoke of the possibility to act for change in the local arena that could bypass central authority and on the limitations for such change. The connection between the groups proved successful.

The course for leaders in environmental justice will continue for 14 months. The course for planners will continue for another year.

  • The course for planners, architects and civil engineers is conducted jointly by the School for Peace and the Arab Center for Alternative Planning.
