After years of work in diverse areas involving relations etween Arabs and Jews, the School for Peace set up a research institute to integrate the complementary aspects of practical and experiential work with theory and research. Our hope is that research will cross-fertilize with the hands-on work we have been doing for many years now. The institute focuses on the study of the power relations between groups and on the development of national and ethnic identities. Qualitative research is the primary mode; the institute works in conjunction with researchers in Israel and abroad. The research institute publishes an annual report and, beginning next year, will also be publishing a journal. The publications are intended to reflect advances and innovations in the field, at the School for Peace and in Israel generally.
Staff at the institute are now hard at work on a three-year study of Jewish-Arab youth encounter. The staff are also working on a translation and publishing project designed to make available, in Hebrew and Arabic, some of the relevant radical literature from elsewhere. |
